A Middleton man was injured and his dog went missing in a one-car crash Sunday night in the town of Westport.
The crash was reported at 10:49 p.m. Sunday on County M at Corner Court, the Dane County Sheriff's Office said.
David Brooks, 19, Middleton, was eastbound on M when he served to avoid hitting an oncoming vehicle that had crossed the centerline.
His car left the roadway and hit a tree, the Sheriff's Office said.
Brooks suffered serious injuries and was extricated from the car, taken to UW Hospital.
A female black and white pit bull in the car named "Pepper" was believed to have been injured, and got out of the car before it could be collared.
Attempts to locate Pepper were unsuccessful, so anyone with information about the dog should call 255-2345.
