Constituencies of the treasurer’s office include the residents of Dane County, municipal governments throughout the county, elected officials such as the county executive and County Board, and the office staff who serve the people. My qualifications and my personal outlook on improving outreach and guidance to these individuals make me the ideal candidate to serve as Dane County treasurer.

Through my dedication to outreach and guidance initiatives, I am the only candidate committed to helping homeowners simultaneously pay their taxes and contribute to the local economy. According to a new UW study, three payments are better than the usual two to get annual property tax bills paid on time. I will coordinate with the city of Madison in its quest toward implementing multiple installments to reduce the burden of each tax payment, promote the individuals’ benefits, offer guidance to interested taxpayers, and mitigate potential fiscal impacts on the county.

I will also advocate for the disabled, elderly and fixed-income households by investigating delinquency payment options regarding the county’s 6 percent penalty interest above and beyond the statutory 12 percent penalty interest. To accomplish this, I will work closely with the county executive, County Board, and other stakeholders to shift from reliance on uncertain delinquency penalties to a more stable funding source.

I am also the candidate with the greatest qualifications. I have completed the UW-Green Bay Clerks and Treasurers Institute program, earned my graduate degree from UW in water resources management with a policy-oriented emphasis, and concluded training through the city of Madison Supervisory Academy. Furthermore, I have firsthand experience working in the Madison Assessor’s Office with business personal property, the city of Madison Clerk’s Office as deputy clerk, and the village of Blue Mounds as the interim clerk/treasurer.

My experience and desire to serve have been nurtured since I earned my citizenship merit badges and the rank of Eagle Scout. More recently, I have volunteered on campaigns and get-out-the-vote initiatives for Kathleen Falk and Tom Barrett, among others.

My personal reward for serving in the public sector for over 12 years is the appreciation others express when I am able to help them. My hope is to continue helping Dane County taxpayers now and into the future.
