A South Side Madison bar that has seen shootings and other disturbances in recent months has been given a set of rules and changes it must make to avoid risking its license.
Most recently, the parking lot of R Place On Park, 1821 S. Park St., was the scene of a shooting Oct. 10 in which a stray bullet ended up in someone's nearby home. No one was hurt in the incident.
An Oct. 15 letter from Alcohol Policy Coordinator Katherine Plominski recommends the bar's owners improve lighting, add video surveillance cameras and close the Beld Street entrance to the bar's parking lot, among other requirements.
Police Capt. Carl Gloede said that if the bar does not comply, the next step would be to issue a chief's security plan for the bar and then begin the process of revoking or suspending the bar's license.
"This is their one last chance to steer the ship back in the right direction," he said.
