Gordy’s Market on Friday apologized to its customers for losing focus and growing so fast that it fell into extensive financial troubles.

Those troubles, which led Gordy’s into Chapter 128 of debt reorganization under Wisconsin law in August, resulted in the chain losing all but six of its 26 stores, which had stretched from Rice Lake to La Crosse.

Now Gordy’s consists of stores in downtown Chippewa Falls, Lake Wissota, Cornell, Ladysmith, Barron and Chetek. “We are also currently operating (the) La Crosse, Galesville, Arcadia, Neillsville and Whitehall (stores) through the transition to new ownership,” the chain wrote on Facebook in answering a question.

The chain of stores has operated by the Gordon Schafer and members of his family since 1966. It said in a posting on its Facebook page that its passion for growth and expansion led it to stray from its core values.

“The unfortunate result was that we underserved you, our valued customer. For that, we are very sorry,” Gordy’s said.

Gordy’s said it wants to be more responsive and focused on providing customers solutions.

“Earning your trust is our primary mission and your feedback is valued,” the apology said.
