The nonprofit Morgridge Institute for Research and UW-Madison will lead a collaborative project aimed at improving the security of software used in technology applications ranging from medical devices to the nation's power grid.

A five-year, $23.6 million grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Science and Technology Directorate will establish the Software Assurance Marketplace research center at the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery on the UW-Madison campus.

The Morgridge Institute and the UW will receive a combined $19.6 million; they will work with partners at the University of Illinois and Indiana University, which will get a total of $4 million.

The project will create 25 jobs among the collaborating partners.
