Opening Reception: Thurs, Jan 25, 5 – 7pm

Immerse yourself in a multi-sensorial experience. Whirling Return of the Ancestors celebrates the Yorùbá tradition of honoring the departed with arts and actions. Dazzling masquerade ensembles and diverse contemporary art (film, paintings, photographs, sculptures, textile assemblages) will transport you to an African cultural world … and otherworldly spirits.

Funding provided by the UW-Madison Anonymous Fund, the African Studies Program, and the Evjue Foundation, African Diaspora and the Atlantic World Research Circle (ADAWRC) and the Center for the Humanities
