The Milwaukee-based Cal-Mex restaurant BelAir Cantina opened in September in downtown Madison at 111 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. in the former spot of Francesca’s del Lago. Offering inventive tacos and cocktails, the restaurant joins a taco renaissance in town that includes El Grito Tacos and Canteen.
Since 2010, it has been a fast-growing, popular chain. BelAir Cantina has five locations in the Milwaukee area and is part of Toro, Toro, Toro, a restaurant group owned by Wisconsin natives Leslie Montemurro, Kristyn Eitel and Scott Johnson. According to a release, Eitel is from the Madison area and Montemurro is a University of Wisconsin-Madison graduate.
The restaurant is known for a variety of tacos, from more traditional carnitas, chorizo and al pastor, to mahi mahi with papaya salsa and portabella with chimichurri. The menu also includes tortas, ceviche, Mexican corn, tamales and fajitas.

If BelAir Cantina was a dude, he’d be a chill SoCal guy, maybe from San Diego, who’s adventurous but not so adult that he’d turn down a stoner snack.
