A program that promotes "green" tourism in Wisconsin will be touted to more than 50 million members of one of the country's largest travel organizations.

Travel Green Wisconsin is partnering with AAA Publishing to highlight lodging properties that promote environmental and energy conservation in the state.

Up to 120 lodging properties in Wisconsin could potentially be identified with the AAA Eco icon in the 2010 TourBook and website, used by 51 million AAA members to make their travel plans.

The Wisconsin Department of Tourism said "green" is a potential tie-breaker in a family's decision on where to take a vacation.

"Since it's inception, the mission of Travel Green Wisconsin has been to promote smart business practices, give the state's tourism businesses and organizations a significant point of differentiation from their competitors, support the state's overall tourism brand and produce measurable environmental improvements," state tourism secretary Kelli Trumble said in a statement.

Since 2007, Travel Green Wisconsin has certified more than 260 tourism businesses including lodging, restaurants, retail stores, tour operators, state parks, convention centers, golf courses and a range of indoor and outdoor attractions.
