Part of Fish Hatchery Road near Wright Middle School will be closed for President Barack Obama's visit Wednesday afternoon.

The road will be closed from noon to 3 p.m. between Wingra Drive and Carver Street, according to the Madison Police Department.

Police spokesman Joel DeSpain said the department is working with an advance team from the Secret Service to implement security measures.

"This is the first time in recent history that a sitting president has called on the city," DeSpain said. "Security will be paramount during Mr. Obama's time in Madison."

The president will fly into Dane County Regional Airport on Air Force One and then ride in a motorcade to the school at 1717 Fish Hatchery Road. The specific route of the motorcade will not be disclosed.

"Suffice to say, there will be some traffic backups," DeSpain said. "Intersections along the route will be temporarily closed off as the president passes."

Many police officers are being called in to assist with the motorcade and event security.

"There will be overtime costs," DeSpain said. "It isn't known at this time what they will be, but that figure will be released some time after the event."
