Beautifying your lawn and garden while helping the environment at the same time is the cornerstone of the Better Lawns and Gutters tour, the ninth edition coming Saturday to McFarland.

The tour, sponsored by the Dane County Lakes and Watershed Commission, will feature nine sites in McFarland, presenting ideas on how to use native plants in landscapes, using rain gardens and rain barrels to reduce stormwater runoff, and how to save time and money on maintenance.

The tour information center will be in Brandt Park, 4601 Siggelkow Road; maps of the tour, which runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., are available at the info center.

"McFarland is home to many examples of the simple tools that bring form and function together to beautify our landscape, while at the same time protecting our waters," said County Board Supervisor Patrick Miles, who represents McFarland and the town of Dunn.
