A man dressed as a flying monkey from "The Wizard of Oz" sent a Halloween reveler to the hospital in critical condition after allegedly punching the victim over change at a downtown bar.
The battery happened at about 11 p.m. Saturday at the Main Depot bar, 627 W. Main St.
Madison police said the victim suffered a head injury and was last known to be in critical but stable condition, with injuries that didn't appear to be life-threatening.
Witnesses at the bar said the victim purchased a drink when the flying monkey guy tried to take the change.
"The masked man punched the victim several times after being confronted about the money," said police spokesman Joel DeSpain.
Investigators are in the process of following up on leads regarding the masked man's possible identity.
