Due to continued high demand, Madison Area Technical College is offering additional "Concealed Carry and Handgun Fundamentals Safety Courses" in January and February.

The college reports the six-hour class meets the training requirements mandated by the state's concealed carry law, which went into effect on Nov. 1. Those who are 21-and-over who wish to receive a permit to carry a concealed weapon first have to acquire special training and pass a background check.

The course offered by MATC covers: basic knowledge of firearm safety; weapon handling and malfunction solutions; legal responsibilities of firearm ownership and use; and personal decision making on possessing and using a firearm.

Courses are scheduled at MATC's Madison West campus on Jan. 14 and 28, and Feb. 11 and 25. They also will be held at MATC's Portage campus on Jan. 21 and at the Reedsburg campus on Jan. 28.
