Campus Connection: This just in -- UW-Madison a liberal bastion

CampusReform.org put out a press release Monday, noting it recently "completed an in-depth profile of the political climate at the University of Wisconsin as part of an ongoing project to research the nation's top 100 universities. The research shows liberal political bias at the University of Wisconsin based on the school's faculty, student organizations, and administrative policies."

Some reasons for deeming UW-Madison a liberal bastion? CampusReform.org notes: of the 31 student groups on campus "with a distinct partisan leaning," 25 are liberal and six are viewed as conservative; of the 248 UW-Madison faculty and staff who donated during the 2008 elections, 94 percent gave to Democratic candidates; and students must complete a course in ethnic studies to graduate.

To be honest, the fact that only 6 percent of faculty and staff who donated gave to the Republicans in 2008 is an eye opener. Of course, two years ago even most Republicans were fed up with the leadership of their party. Conversely, the fact that most student groups on campus were viewed by this website as left leaning isn't a big surprise. It's also not clear from here why having an ethnic studies requirement is deemed as a bad thing in the eyes of a conservative website (but I'm sure someone will enlighten me with a friendly e-mail or "reader comment").
