Sara Goldrick-Rab, the former University of Wisconsin-Madison professor out with a new book on how the financial aid system is failing college students, is scheduled to appear Tuesday on Comedy Central’s “Daily Show” with Trevor Noah.
Goldrick-Rab announced it on Twitter, asking followers: "Ok folks: what most important things about college prices do you want me to #TellTrevor ?"
Her just published book, “Paying the Price: College Costs, Financial Aid and the Betrayal of the American Dream,” weaves the experiences of a half-dozen low-income students through an exploration of why the current system doesn’t work.
Goldrick-Rab will talk about the book at a Room of One’s Own bookstore, 315 W. Gorham St., at 7 p.m. on Friday.
Now at Temple University in Philadelphia, she continues to head the Wisconsin HOPE Lab at UW-Madison, where research examines policies meant to assist students like those she profiles in her book.
Carrying the message about the need to upend the financial aid system sometimes makes her feels like the canary in the coal mine screaming “Do something!” Goldrick-Rab told the Capital Times.
But Friday on Twitter, she was beaming.
And the book about low-income college kids is catapulting Goldrick-Rab to new realms.
“World upside down. Help!!” Goldrick-Rab exclaimed on Twitter, posting a grid of scheduled appearances on the Daily Show for this week and next. They include singer-songwriter Nick Jonas, talk show host Wendy Williams, actress Jada Pinkett Smith and journalist Lisa Ling.
"I just died. @jadapsmith — and me. World upside down. Help!!"
