Several alders are hosting a public safety listening session Thursday geared toward downtown Madison.

Four members of the Madison City Council are hosting a public safety listening session Thursday, focusing on safety in the downtown business district and downtown neighborhoods.

“Our goal is to gain understanding of what is important to our constituents, so we can make informed decisions on supporting our public safety officers,” Alds. Ledell Zellers, District 2; Mike Verveer, District 4; Zach Wood, District 8; and Paul Skidmore, District 9, said in a statement.

The meeting will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Madison Concourse Hotel, 1 W. Dayton St. City Channel will stream the meeting online and record it.

Madison Police Chief Mike Koval, members of the MPD’s Central District command staff, Madison Fire Chief Steven Davis and Dane County Sheriff Dave Mahoney are expected to attend the listening session.

Suggested topics of conversation include police resources, use-of-force policies, body worn cameras, additional surveillance equipment, neighborhood-based policing and crime in the University Avenue area.

There will be no presentations, and all attendees will have an opportunity to make a statement.
