After years of planning and a nail-biter of a $4.1 million fund-raising campaign, the Urban League of Greater Madison is moving in to its new headquarters at The Villager at 2222 S. Park St. The moving truck pulled up Friday and office furniture was unloaded into the new facility.

"We're ramping up," says ULGM vice president Ed Lee, with more programming and more partnerships with other agencies now visible from the new building's ground floor "community room."

The non-profit agency focused on economic development in disadvantaged communities now is squarely in and of the community. The Public Library soon will begin finishing the rest of the ground floor space for its South Madison Branch. ULGM and Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin will have offices on the second floor.

The Urban League has set a grand opening celebration for Feb. 19, 2010.
