Local Latinos are fighting back, asking members and allies of the Latino community to join a national petition asking CNN to drop commentator Lou Dobbs and his brand of anti-immigrant hate.
The campaign generated by Presente.org, an on-line political advocacy community, urges readers to send an email to CNN president Jon Klein demanding he yank Dobbs for his repeated mouthing of myths and misinformation about immigrants and Latinos that have been linked to a rise in hate crimes. "There should be no place for the likes of Dobbs on the 'most trusted name in news,'" says an email making the rounds in Madison area list-servs.
Read more about the campaign at Basta (Enough! in Spanish) Dobbs. Dobbs' harping on the nation's "Broken Borders," reports erroneously linking immigrants to a surge in leprosy, and sly support of "birthers" questioning President Obama's citizenship drew fire from other quarters, too.
The Southern Poverty Law Center called for Dobbs to go off the air after he suggested Obama was ""un...no I won't even use the word undocumented." And south Florida-based Democracia U.S.A. has announced plans for an anti-Dobbs website, www.EnoughisEnough!.com.
Dobbs is a darling of FAIR, Federation for American Immigration Reform, but another FAIR -- Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting -- has been reporting on Dobbs' alarmist schtick take for years.
Do you want to see Dobbs fade away?
