Dear Editor: Our system works better for insurance companies that it does for the American people. Tens of millions of Americans have no health insurance, living one accident or illness away from total financial disaster. Hundreds of millions of Americans who have insurance live with the constant worry that they might lose it if they change jobs or lose their jobs - or that their insurance company might cancel their plan when they get sick.

It's time for Republicans to start acting like they believe in the American values they have sold themselves with for the past 20 years. Is the health of our children not a family value? Or do we only discuss family values when we are trying to deny liberties to those with whom we disagree?

The American people spoke loud and clear in the last election. It's time our elected representatives actually represent the people rather than the profits of those who fund their campaigns. We are closer now than ever to enacting comprehensive reform. It's time to finish the job and pass real reform.
