Dear Editor: Kudos to Dave Zweifel on his Nov. 25 “citizenship” column pointing out the lack of civics education in our public schools. The problem is not unique to just Madison or other Wisconsin schools. If you ever watched one of Jay Leno’s “man on the street” interviews, you saw some pretty entertaining answers to his questions. When the subject was American government (current or historical), some answers were downright depressing. It left you with the question, “What the hell are they teaching our kids in school these days?”

Once my kids and their friends entered the voting scenario they started to ask questions that in my day (boy, that’s dating me) would be common knowledge. At least I was able to put my political bent on answers to their questions, and that is bad news for the liberals.
