Dear Editor: We are writing to express our strong support for Ismael Ozanne for Dane County district attorney. As longtime residents of the Dane County community, we have watched his approach to criminal justice and have been extremely impressed.

Ozanne has an understanding of the inequities within the criminal justice system and has sought solutions to racial and economic disparities. He has initiated and supported enhanced community policing, alternatives to incarceration, counseling and training instead of separation of families who are victims of domestic violence.

As nurses, health care professionals, former state employees, and private-sector union members, we will never forget his leadership and the courage he displayed in the aftermath of the abhorrent Act 10 legislation that stripped us of our important union rights to collective bargaining.

As retirees and current health care workers, we believe it is time to continue to elect young, proven leaders with an alternative vision to how our institutions should respond to the community we live in.

Aug. 9 we will be voting for and encouraging our friends and family members to re-elect Ismael Ozanne.
