Dear Editor: I am a youth climate activist, and lifelong citizen of Wisconsin. I am writing in regards to the Enbridge tar sands pipeline system, and an important opportunity to speak up against its dangers to our home.

The Enbridge pipeline, which runs through the Midwest, carries tar sands from Alberta Canada through Minnesota (line 3), and down through Wisconsin (line 61). The list of environmental, health and property dangers that accompany pipeline installation, usage, and spillage is extensive. It is no exaggeration to say the effects are devastating to the health and beauty of the Midwest and those of us who call it home. In Wisconsin, our natural resources are not only a source of pride, but an irreplaceable source of tourism, recreation, and economic assurance. As a young person who has grown in admiration and love for this incredible region of the world, I speaking out to protect the natural beauty of our home — and my future in it.

On Thursday, Sept. 28, a public hearing on the expansion of line 3 will be held in St. Paul, Minnesota. Should the expansion/replacement be approved, it is likely that a twin line to line 61 in Wisconsin would be added. Anyone interested in attending, or providing financial support so that others may attending, can find more information online at: http://tinyurl.com/pipeline3bus

The hearing on Enbridge Line 3 is a critical moments for us to stand up for ourselves, and for our Midwest community. Please join us!
