Dear Editor: Many people complain about paying their taxes, or brag that they are smarter than others, as they figured out a way to avoid paying taxes, or always vote for the candidate who promises to lower their taxes.

However: "A veteran is someone who, at one point in his or her life, wrote a blank check made payable to The 'United States of America,' for an amount of "up to and including my life." Author unknown.
