The color of this rosé is of Provence, the pale salmon conjuring up images of lavender strewn fields, lazy days and bicycles under an endless sun. The rich texture and flavors bring us back to California, where the images of commanding cliffs overseeing the ebb and flow of the Pacific tide are equally intriguing – and you can almost feel the sand between your toes and taste the salty sea spray.
This wine is from Mendocino, and the weighty, velvety palate is balanced by a refreshing lift of acidity that keeps the peach, nectarine, banana and red cherry fruits bright.
Silver Trident’s winemaker is the very talented Kari Auringer. The tasting salon, decorated in couture Ralph Lauren, is a “don’t-miss” visit, right in the heart of Yountville.
Catherine Bugue is the Star’s tasting panel writer. Her weekly pursuit of a good glass of wine provides a nice supply of choices for the Wine of the Week column. If you’d like to submit a Napa Valley wine for this column, please send it to the Napa Valley Wine Academy, 2501 Oak St., Napa, CA 94559. There’s no guarantee your wine will be chosen to be featured, but all wines will be evaluated and considered.
