Groundhog Day

Sun Prairie's Groundhog Day Prognostication is held at sunrise, 7:11 a.m. Friday, in Cannery Square, 1 Cannery Square, Sun Prairie.


Witness Jimmy the Groundhog’s prediction of an early spring or more winter at dawn, 7:11 a.m., Friday in Cannery Square, 1 Cannery Square, Sun Prairie. Local businesses open as early as 5:30 a.m. and offer food, drink and shopping specials along with Jimmy the Groundhog merchandise in honor of the 70th Annual Groundhog Day Prognostication. The free family-friendly ceremony begins at 6:50 a.m.

Continue the fun with the annual Groundhog Ball 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday at The Round Table, 1611 N. Bristol St., Sun Prairie. Live music from the Carl Laack band and a cash bar highlight the event that benefits Sun Prairie Youth Baseball and Softball. Tickets are $7 and available at the door of the casual attire dance.

Scandihoovian Festival

Revel in Norwegian and Swedish culture during the Scandihoovian Winter Festival Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in the Mount Horeb and Blue Mounds areas. Various indoor and outdoor venues offer family-friendly fun, with free admission for most events. Get outdoors for snow sculpting, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, fatty bike races, vintage snowmobile show, hockey skating lessons, ice skating, family broom ball, frozen turkey bowling, candlelight ski and hike and more. Indoor activities include Norwegian Hardanger fiddlers and fiddle display, red hat decorating, adult spelling bee, free showing of “Trolls” movie, cupcake walk, music and entertainment, Scandihoovian meatballs, pancake breakfast, and more.

Saturday Science

Team up with UW-Madison student-athletes at Saturday Science: Badger Athletics 10 a.m. to noon Saturday in the atrium of the Discovery Building, 330 N. Orchard St., and discover how math and science shape athletic performance. Explore how your body moves, learn to stay safe on the field, find out how staying fit impacts your health and more. How fast are you? Measure your speed at the quickness testing station! Geared toward children and families, the event is free.

Puppy Bowl

Sit. Stay. Celebrate Super Bowl Sunday with Fetch Wisconsin Rescue at their Puppy Pre-game Party Sunday 1 to 4 p.m. at Camp Trippalindee Restaurant in the Graduate Madison Hotel, 601 Langdon St. There will be a Puppy Bowl and puppy games with puppies, of course! For the humans there will be drink specials, food specials including Puppy Chow, doggy prizes and more.

Stay. There will be commercial bingo and more fun and prizes during the Super Bowl.
