General Motors in Janesville, 1988

Workers finish assembling a Buick Skyhawk, one of General Motors' subcompact J cars, in December, 1988, at the GM assembly plant in Janesville. The plant produced full-sized Chevrolets for many years, before subcompacts were assembled there in the 1980s. GM announced Tuesday June 3, 2008 that the plant, which now manufactures Chevrolet and GMC Suburban, Tahoe, and Yukon models, will close in 2010. File photo/Mark Hertzberg Journal Times
