Competitors hungry for food court fare will bring empty stomachs to Madison on Feb. 6 in hopes of being named America's food court king or queen.
The first ever USquare National Food Court Eating Championship is coming to the USquare food court at 365 E. Campus Mall, organizers from the Association of Independent Competitive Eaters announced. The most determined eater must be capable of devouring a line up of Japanese, Chinese and Italian food to win a $2,000 prize.
Eaters will be up against Virginia native Ian "The Invader" Hickman, the former world record holder for the 10.1 pounds of chili he ate in five minutes at an Ohio competition in 2008, and local competitor Matt "The Mad City Masticator" Allen, the world frog leg champion, who is also expected to make a bid for the title.
Contestants and spectators will be asked to donate canned food or money to The River Food Pantry in Madison.
