Four Altoona residents have been indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly stealing packages of computers, TVs, collectible coin sets and other goods from a shipping company contracted to transport mail for the U.S. Postal Service.
Branden Kortness, 28; Michael Dayton, 29; William Lund, 25; and Deedra Ulry, 22, were indicted on conspiracy to steal U.S. mail and possession of stolen goods charges in federal court in Madison on Wednesday.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice indictment, Kortness used his position as a night shift supervisor at Straight Shot Express Corp. in Eau Claire to inspect pallets of mail, with the other three defendants joining Kortness at the company warehouse at night to take packages.
Each face a maximum of five years in prison on the conspiracy charge and five years on the possesion charge.
