Gunfire that was so loud it sounded like it was being shot right outside a homeowner's North Side home apparently didn't hit anybody or any property.

The shots were fired Tuesday at about 6:40 p.m. in the 4300 block of Green Avenue, Madison police said.

The homeowner who called police said he dropped to the floor, fearing he might be hit.

"In the darkness, responding officers recovered three shell casings in the roadway, but witnesses thought they heard as many as five shots," said police spokesman Joel DeSpain.

No immediate reports of injuries or property damage were made to police.

No description of a suspect was given.
