A 13-year-old boy was arrested early Wednesday morning after allegedly stealing a car.

The boy was taken to juvenile jail on tentative charges of operating a motor vehicle without owner's consent, fleeing and eluding an officer and resisting an officer, Fitchburg police said.

The car had been reported stolen in Madison.

Shortly before 2 a.m. on Wednesday, a Fitchburg officer tried to stop the vehicle near the intersection of Carling Drive and Verona Frontage Road, but the driver didn't stop.

The officer did not pursue the car, but saw the possible suspect in the 4500 block of Verona Road, where the stolen car had been left.

The officer tried to talk to the teen but he fled on foot, only to get apprehended a short time later.
