A UW-Madison student suffered several facial fractures in a mugging early Sunday morning on a downtown street, Madison police reported.
Police said the 20-year-old victim waited until Wednesday afternoon to report the mugging, not realizing how serious his injuries were until he went to a clinic on Tuesday.
The mugging happened at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday on North Broom Street just south of State Street, according to a police news release.
The victim said he was blind-sided with a blow to the head, administered by one of two men attacking him.
"While on his belly on the ground, one robber held him down with a forearm to the back while the other took money from his pocket," said police spokesman Joel DeSpain.
The suspects fled north on Broom Street. The only description of the suspects the victim gave was that one was a black male wearing a red sweatshirt and jeans.
