A 21-year-old Madison man suffered bumps and bruises when he was mugged by four or five young men on the city's north side.

The mugging happened at about 12:40 a.m. in the 100 block of Kennedy Heights, Madison police said in a news release.

The victim was walking on Kennedy Heights when the suspects approached.

"He said he was punched in the face, pulled to the ground and punched about 20 more times while on the ground," said police spokesman Joel DeSpain.

The victim dropped his cellphone during the attack and the suspects took it with them before fleeing on foot.

The suspects are black males, all 15-20 years old, between 5 feet 6 inchs and 5 feet 9 inches tall, wearing dark clothing, with one also wearing a fake fur coat.
