A Madison man accused of making harassing text messages to his ex-girlfriend was arrested Sunday for his alleged fifth drunken driving offense, authorities reported.

Peter Horton, 42, was arrested at his home in Madison and taken to the Dane County Jail, the Dane County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

Deputies went to a residence in Mazomanie at about 11:20 a.m. Sunday after the woman at the residence reported she had been getting numerous text messages, many harassing and/or threatening in nature, from Horton.

"After obtaining the initial information, deputies went to Horton's residence," said Lt. Charles Immel said in the release. "Upon arrival, deputies saw Horton drive up to the residence."

Deputies talked to Horton and determined he had been drinking. Field sobriety tests were conducted and Horton was arrested on tentative charges of drunken driving and domestic disorderly conduct.
