A Madison man who was reportedly upset with a Christmas gift purchased by a woman ended up getting arrested after he allegedly battered the woman and tried to run from officers, police reported.
Paul Horne, 23, was tentatively charged with battery and disorderly conduct as well as possession of a weapon by a felon and possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, the Madison Police Department said in a news release.
The incident happened at about 9:40 p.m. Sunday at an apartment in the 1700 block of Onsgard Road on the city's far east side.
Officers were sent to the scene after getting reports of a man with a gun. The argument allegedly was between Horne and a 30-year-old woman.
"He said she had been out shopping too long and purchased the wrong Christmas gift," said police spokesman Howard Payne.
According to police:
When officers arrived they saw a man running from the building, and he refused to stop when ordered to do so by police. Horne jumped over a fence but was stopped by officers.
"People told officers Horne allegedly battered the 30-year-old woman in the hallway of the apartment and that he was carrying a gun case," Payne said.
Officers searched and recovered cash, marijuana, ammunition and a 12-gauge shotgun.
