Police in Berlin are investigating the death of a man whose body was found outside a tavern Sunday night.

Police Chief Dennis Plantz said in a news release the state Crime Lab investigators were called and worked through the night processing the scene.

Berlin police declined to comment when asked if the case was being investigated as a homicide. An autopsy was being performed Monday.

The body was found at 7:30 p.m. Sunday near some dumpsters at the City Inn Bar and Grill on Berlin's West Side, according to a police news release.

"Upon arrival, officers saw an unresponsive white male in his early 40s," Plantz said in the release. "Berlin paramedics found the man to be lifeless."

The Green Lake County Coroner's Office was called to the scene and pronounced the man dead.

The identity of the man has not been released pending notification of family.

More information is expected to be released by police later on Monday.
