A Madison man was charged Friday with 12 counts of possessing child pornography after state and federal agents searched his apartment on Tuesday.

Grant M. Rondorf, 34, admitted to agents from the state Division of Criminal Investigation and the federal Department of Homeland Security that he possesses, collects and distributes child pornography over the Internet, according to a criminal complaint filed in Dane County Circuit Court.

Rondorf was jailed on $7,000 bail after appearing in court on Friday.

According to the complaint:

A Homeland Security agent used a covert account to correspond with Rondorf over a peer-to-peer network and was able to download child pornography from Rondorf.

Rondorf told investigators that his roommate, who did not approve of Rondorf viewing child pornography, also used the laptop computer that Rondorf used to download and store the pornography, so he kept the files hidden on the computer, according to the complaint.

On the computer and a removable storage device, a DCI analyst found 10 video files and 80 pictures, all sexually explicit images of children.

Under a recent state law, Rondorf faces a mandatory three years in prison on each child pornography charge for which he is convicted.
