A 19-year-old from Stoughton has died from injuries sustained in a crash Tuesday on U.S. 51 near Stoughton.

Charles Stabler died at UW Hospital on Wednesday, according to a news release from the Dane County Sheriff's Office.

The crash, which closed the highway for several hours, was reported at about 7:55 a.m. at 51 and Halverson Road, the Sheriff's Office reported.

According to the Sheriff's Office:

Stabler was driving south on 51 when he attempted to turn left onto Halverson Road and failed to yield to oncoming traffic, striking a northbound pickup truck driven by Lori Lampe, 48, Stoughton.

Stabler was ejected from his Volkswagen Jetta and was flown by Med Flight to UW Hospital with serious injuries.

Deputies believed he was not wearing his seat belt.

Lampe suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital by Stoughton EMS.

The crash remains under investigation.

The highway was shut down for about 2 1/2 hours, reopening at about 10:30 a.m.
