Dense fog has forced several area school districts to call off classes Wednesday, giving kids an early Thanksgiving.

Channel3000.com reports schools in the Black Hawk, Darlington, Dodgeville, Iowa-Grant, Mineral Point and Prairie du Chien school districts are closed.

Schools in the Highland, Lakeside Lutheran and Markesan school districts will open at 10 a.m.

A dense fog advisory is in effect until noon, with visibility down to zero in some areas, according to the National Weather Service.

The fog is expected to clear in late morning, with sunshine and a high near 60 this afternoon.

Um, canceling school due to FOG?????? Seems to me some school superintendents are looking to take the day off to get an early start on their Thanksgiving cooking.
