Nine UW-Madison professors have been awarded $50,000 grants for research from the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation.

The Romnes Faculty Fellowships recognize exceptional faculty members who have earned tenure within the last six years, the university said in a news release.

The award is named for the late H.I. Romnes, former chairman of the board of ATT and former president of the WARF Board of Trustees.

The winners are Dominique Brossard, professor of life science communication; Baron Chanda, associate professor of neuroscience and biomolecular chemistry; Padma Gopalan, professor of materials science and engineering; Irena Knezevic, professor of electrical and computer engineering;

Gregory Nemet, associate professor of public affairs and environmental studies; Eric Raimy, professor of linguistics; Xin Sun, professor of medical genetics; Christopher Walker, associate professor of dance; and Tehshik Yoon, professor of chemistry.
