(608) 846-4250\ \Amos, James W.\MADISON - James W. Amos, age 54, of Verona, died on Wednesday,June 11, 2008, at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Ill. Hewas born in Madison, on March 7, 1954, son of Richard and Effie Anne Amos. He graduated fromMadison East High School in 1972, and earned a bachelor' s degreein history from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1976. He wenton to earn a master' degree in political science there in 1977 and a law degree from the Universit y of Wisconsin Law School in 1980. He then worked at the Wisconsin Departmentof Regulation and Licensing and later as a hearing examiner for theState Department of Workforce Development. Jim was a hemophiliac andfor many years advocated tirelessly on behalf of others similarly afflicted, especially those who, like him, had received contaminated blood productsin the course of medical treatment. He waged a valiant personal battleagainst HIV and hepatitis up to the very end of his life. He is survivedby his loving partner of 20 years, Suzanne Schmidt. Also surviving himare his parents; brothers, William of Boise, Idaho, and Ronald of SturgeonBay; many in-laws, aunts and uncles, cousins, nephews, and friends.Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 16, 2008, at 11 a.m. atRESURRECTION LUTHERAN CHURCH in Verona. A private burial will be heldat Verona Cemetery. Visitations will be held at the RYAN FUNERAL HOMEon Sunday, June 15, 2008, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the RYAN FUNERALHOME on Sherman Avenue in Madison, and on Monday, June 16, 2008, atRESURRECTION LUTHERAN CHURCH, 6705 Wesner Road, Verona, and from 10a.m. until the time of service at the church. He married Evelyn 'June ' Walton on June 14, 1952, at the United Methodist Church in Boscobel.She preceded him on Sept. 19, 2007. He is survived by two sons, Greg(Laurie) McDowell of Marshall, Minn., and James (Cheri) McDowell ofNeenah; two daughters, Cindy McDowell and fiancee Jamie Kraemer bothof Boscobel, and Lori (Don) Krug of Mazomanie; six grandchildren; agreat-grandchild; and twin sisters, Maxine Boughton of Boscobel, andMarcella (Robert) Gardner of Boscobel. He was preceded in death by hisparents; along with a brother-in-law, Clair Boughton. 'Bob'\OREGON - Robert James 'Bob' Johnson, age 78, of Oregon,passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2008, at HospiceCare in Fitchburg.He was born on Feb. 1, 1930, in Madison, the son of John L. and MildredM. (Sievert) Johnson. Bob was a Sea Scout and a graduate from MadisonEast High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force at the age of 17and was stationed in Germany and France, where he met and married MarieFrancoise Milard in 1959, in Fontainebleau, France. The couple residedin France for seven years where they started their family. After a yearin Africa in 1968, Bob returned to the United States, as an internationaltrade officer for the Small Business Administration and joined the WisconsinAir National Guard. The Johnson family has resided in Oregon since 1968.Bob loved to travel and talked easily to strangers. He crossed the Atlanticocean seven times by ship and was a million mile flier crossing thecountry from Maine to California. He loved his family and his dog. Bobretired from the Wisconsin Air National Guard in 1984, after a long career in Intelligence. He was a member of the American Legion ParisPost No. 1 in 1973 and more recently the American Legion Post No. 59,in Stoughton. Bob is survived by his wife, Marie of Oregon; children,Anne Johnson of Verona, and Denis Johnson of Boston, Mass.; and twograndchildren, Andrew and Michelle White of Verona. He was precededin death by a daughter, Marie Alice Johnson; parents; and sister, PatriciaLarson. Memorial services will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL HOME,431 Soden Drive, Oregon, on Monday, June 16, 2008, at 11 a.m. with FatherTony Schumacher presiding. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be madeto a charity of the donor' s choice.

Diane graduatedfrom Tomah High School and received her undergraduate at the Universityof Wisconsin-Madison in literature. Later she received her Ph.D. inliterature from the University of Pennsylvania. Diane married LawrenceLichstein on Aug. 12, 1968, in Madison. She and her husband raised theirfamily in Colorado Springs, Colo., before retiring to Viola. Diane issurvived by her mother, Isabelle Regan; sons, Gilbert Lichstein (RuthCzarnecki-Lichstein) and Byron Lichstein (partner, Jennie Capellaro);brothers, Casey (Jennifer) Purdy and Luke (Lillian) Purdy; sisters,Nancy Purdy and Heather (Richard) Mantz; and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence on Aug. 6, 2000;and her father, Dale. A visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERALHOME, 5203 Monona Drive, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 15,2008.

She was born on Sept. 3, 1958, at St. Mary' s Hospital Madison, the daughter of Gordon and Marian (Brewer) Merry.Judy resided in Sun Prairie and DeForest almost her entire life. Shegraduated from Edgewood College School of Nursing. Judith attained hermaster' s in nursing. She was employed as a nurse with the VeteransAdministration at the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital,Madison in the surgical Intensive Care Unit and also as a wound carespecialist. Judy is survived by her father, Gordon Merry D.V.M. of SunPrairie; her brothers, Steve (Jann) Merry M.D. of Hartford, David (Martha)Merry D.V.M. of Cincinnati, Ohio, Roger (Cathy) Merry J.D. of Monroe,and Timothy (Paula) Merry D.D.S. of Germantown; nieces and nephews including , Matthew Merry, Ginger Merry, Daniel Merry, Justin (Jen) Merry, Leah(Justin) Burroughs, William Merry, Michael Merry, Courtney Merry, Joshua Merry, Kyle Merry and Jenna Merry; great-niece, Paige Merry; longtimespecial friend, David Derr of Sun Prairie; other relatives and friends.She was preceded in death by her mother. Thomas, age 82, of Mineral Point, diedlate Wednesday evening, June 11, 2008, at Bloomfield Manor Nursing Home, Dodgeville, after an extended illness. Jack was born on Jan. 9, 1926,on the home farm in Mineral Point Township to Everett and Sophia (Gratz)Thomas. He married Elaine E. Johnson on June 14, 1946, in the MethodistParsonage, Belmont, and they farmed in the Darlington and Mineral Pointareas until moving to the city of Mineral Point in 1957. He worked forWalnut Grove 4x4 Feed Products for 32 years and retired in 1990. Jackwas very proud to have served on the Mineral Point Volunteer Fire Departmentalongside many of his lifelong friends for 30 years. Jack served severalyears as an alderman on the Mineral Point City Council and then as amember of the Iowa County Board of Supervisors. He enjoyed playing slowpitch and bowling, and was a member of the Southwest Wisconsin BowlersAssociation Hall of Fame. Jack was a charter member of the Mineral PointLions Club and a recipient of the volunteer organization' s highestaward, the Melvin Jones Fellowship. He was sheep superintendent of theIowa County Fair for more than 30 years. Jack loved the outdoors. Someof his most enjoyable times were spent fishing and hunting with hissons, friends and Molly, his Labrador Retriever; trailer camping withhis wife and friends; and tending his large vegetable and flower gardens.Jack is survived by four sons, David (Lynda) Thomas and Russell (Sue)Thomas of Madison, Steven (Patti) Thomas of Mineral Point, and Mark (Kelly Gundlach) Thomas of Fitchburg; eight grandchildren, Tristan (Erika) Thomas, Carrie (Steven Wink) Thomas-Wink and Melissa Thomas, Cheri (Kurt) Grover and Jason (Amanda) Thomas, and Megan (Ryan) Currie, Becky andAdam Thomas; two stepgrandchildren, Cortney (Troy) Finley and KatieWagner; five great-grandchildren, Elsie Thomas, Abbie and Cambrie Wink,and Jack and Hannah Grover; two sisters, Mae Ross of South Haven, Mich.,and Dorothea Iverson of Payson, Ariz.; a sister-in-law, Carol Thomasof Dodgeville; a brother-in-law, Harold Johnson of Darlington; and manycousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by hiswife, Elaine on Nov. 6, 2007; an infant daughter; his parents; his brothers,Jerrold and Donald Thomas; a sister-in-law, Eileen Thomas; and brothers-in-l aw, Jack Ross and Larry Iverson. Funeral services will be held at 11a.m. on Monday, June 16, 2008, at the FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCHin Mineral Point. The Rev. Mary Anne Conklin will officiate. Burialwill be in Graceland Cemetery at a later date.
