MADISON—Betty Jeanne Barnes, age 83, passed away on Dec. 28, 2017, at Hope & A Future (a non-profit assisted living group home where she resided and was loved for the past year). She was born on Dec. 30, 1933, in Estherville, Iowa, to Joy and Maurice Burrell. She married the love of her life, Robert F. Barnes, also from Estherville, and they were married from 1955 until his passing in 2013.
Betty had a love for music (especially musicals) and Drama and received a BFA in Drama and Speech from Drake University. She went on to teach English and Drama for two years before she committed to the career of her dreams as a homemaker for her husband and children. In 1965 she committed her life to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her commitment to both her family and faith was extraordinary and she will be remembered for her generosity, her hospitality, and her encouraging words to others through thousands of notes, cards, and letters. One of her greatest pleasures was leading a Bible study for over 20 years up until the week of her death.
She is survived by her sons, Brad and Brian Barnes, her daughter, Rebecca Reinalda and husband Jim and their children Neal, Owen and wife Elise, Ford, Linc, and Hoyt, and her daughter Roberta Nixon and husband Dean and their children Drew, Zachariah, and Abagail.
The Funeral service will be held Friday, Jan. 5, 2018, at 1 p.m., at BLACKHAWK CHURCH, 9620 Brader Way, Middleton, WI 53562, with visitation to follow. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to Hope & A Future, 3440 S. High Point Road, Madison, WI 53719. Please share your memories at www.CressFuneralService.com. And as Betty would say—“Has anyone told you today that Jesus loves you?!”
