MOUNT HOREB—Ralph L. Baumeister, age 100, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017, at Ingleside Nursing Home. Ralph was born on Dec. 11, 1916, to Charles and Marie (Stenner) Baumeister in Hickory Grove Township, Grant County, Wis. Ralph attended the Brindley Rural School and the Boscobel High School. As a young man he played for many house dances, playing a violin, a guitar, a banjo and an accordion. He was a licensed cheese maker, making cheese in Eagle Township, Richland County and at the Homer Cheese Factory in Grant County. In 1945, he worked as an artificial inseminator for Vernon Breeders in Westby. In 1948, he worked as a mechanic for Boebel Farm Service in Fennimore. In 1951, he started working for the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture Brucellosis Program, retiring from there in 1982.
He married Ruth Staskal on Aug. 21, 1946. Two sons were born to this union, Terry Joe of Blue Mounds and LaVern Charles. They established homes in Vernon County, Boscobel, Fennimore, Mineral Point, and Mount Horeb. Ruth died on Dec. 26, 2016.
Ralph joined the Boscobel Masonic Lodge in 1950. At the time of his death, he was a member of the Barneveld Masonic Lodge, being a Mason for 67 years. Ralph devoted many years of service with the Boy Scouts, both in Mineral Point and as Scout Master in Mount Horeb. Ralph was a Vigil Member of the Order of the Arrow. Ralph and Ruth always found vacation time as a family to travel and go camping. They were also active members of the Verona Squares and Round Dancers and the Bell Ringer Camping Group. They spent 23 winters in Bentsen Palm RV park in Mission, Texas.
He leaves to mourn his death his sons, Terry Joe (Lois) and Lavern Charles (Renee); three grandchildren, Abby, Terri Jo, and Anthony (Jennie); five great-grandchildren, Jamisen, Tilly, Dallas, Samantha and Athena; his brother-in-law, Glendon Staskal; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a brother, LeRoy (Irma); his sisters-in-law, Gayle (Mark) Napp and Helen Staskal; a brother-in-law, Robert (Mildred) Staskal; and a niece, Donna (Lyle) Sanders.
A Masonic Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 16, 2017, at the ELLESTAD CAMACHO FUNERAL HOME, 500 N. 8th St., Mount Horeb, with Mr. Karl Gant presiding the Masonic Service. Inurnment will be at German Valley Cemetery. A gathering with family and friends will be from 12:30 p.m. until 1:15 p.m. on Monday at the ELLESTAD CAMACHO FUNERAL HOME. For those who prefer, donations would be appreciated to Agrace HospiceCare, Immanuel Lutheran Church, or a charity of your choice.
