MONONA—Albert “Al” Borchardt, of Monona, passed away on Monday, Nov. 13, 2017, at home with his loving family by his side. He was born on March 6, 1936, in Chippewa Falls, the son of Rodney and Evelyn (Rogers) Borchardt.
Al married Kathy Ryan on Sept. 8, 1956, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Madison. Al’s passions included painting with oil and water colors, building model railroads, wood working, kayak building and biking. He was also a musician. Al also enjoyed racing sailboats on Lake Monona and leisure sailing on Lake Michigan. Most of all, he loved his family.
Al is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Kathy; three daughters, Kim von Allmen (Andy Hillmer), Cheryl (Don) Schmudlach and Susan (Roger) O’Leary; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary (Earle) Dawson and Joyce (Jim) Bates; and many other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Valerie Schmudlach; and sister, Beverly Holmes.
A Celebration of Life will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at noon, on Friday, Nov. 17, 2017, with the Rev. Jerry Amstutz presiding. Burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
