GAYS MILLS / RICHLAND CENTER—Alberta A. Chellevold-Couey, age 90, passed away on March 12, 2018, at Sannes Skogdalen Heim Nursing Home in Soldiers Grove, Wis. Alberta was born on March 19, 1927, in the Gays Mills area, the daughter of Pearl and Florence (Larsen) Bacon. She was united in marriage to Marvin Chellevold on June 27, 1946, in Viroqua and together they had four children. After Marvin’s passing, she married Bernard Couey of Richland Center.
Alberta was dedicated to her family and friends. She helped Marvin operate the Kickapoo Locker in Gays Mills from 1945 to 1985 while raising their four children. She continued to help her son, Jim, with the locker when he took over the business in 1985. After retiring from the locker, Alberta enjoyed travelling and spending time with friends and family. She loved to have company visit, always sharing great stories. She was a great cook—making delicious pancakes, fried chicken, cinnamon rolls and oxtail soup. A proud Norwegian who enjoyed lutefisk and lefse, she was an active member of Luther Memorial Church in Gays Mills.
Alberta is survived by her four children, James (Sharon) Chellevold of Gays Mills, Barbara (James) Hines of Gays Mills, Dale (Kathy) Chellevold of Dodgeville and Lois (Gary) Bodendein of Reedsburg; grandchildren, James (Chanda) Chellevold, Jennifer Chellevold (friend-Joe), Karen (Jeff) Fisher, Lori (Lance) Meudt, Siri (Dan) Mikkelson, Ingrid (Matthew) Fry, Ryan Bodendein, Desiree (Mark) Schlangen, and Denise (Al) Schumann; and nine great-grandchildren. Also her second husband, Bernard Couey of Richland Center, and his children, William Couey (friend-Lynette), Michael (Stacy) Couey, Bonita (Robert) Haynes, and Margaret Hyatt; and four step grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Alberta was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Chellevold; brother, Myron Bacon; and step-son-in-law, Thomas Hyatt.
Blessed be our memory of Alberta A. Chellevold-Couey.
