LEAVENWORTH, Kan.—An energetic man, Ret. Army Major Leonard B. Della-Moretta II passed away Dec. 1, 2017, at the age of 68. He was born June 8, 1949, in Ann Arbor, Mich., son of Leonard and Nona (Walker) Della-Moretta.
In 1967, he graduated from Madison West High School. He entered the University of Wisconsin, for a short time, then moved to California. Leonard graduated from Claremont Men’s College, School of Business in 1974 at the same time he received his Army commissioning. This led into an extensive Army career. He married Ana Valiente on Dec. 28, 1978.
He is survived by his wife; and two sons, Ret. CPT Leonard III of London, England and Ret. CPT, Robert of Seattle, Wash.; two sisters, Mary Anne (Leonard) Grega of the Town of Westport and Ellen (Daryl) Hinman of California. He was preceded in death by his parents; cousin, Michael Della-Moretta in a Navy plane crash in the Red Sea.
A military funeral was held Dec. 11, 2017, at the National Cemetary on the Fort Leavenworth Army Post, Kan. The family extends warm gratitude to the Disabled American Veterans and Kindness expressed.
