MADISON—Janet F. “Jan” (née Millette) Dyer died peacefully in her home on Nov. 6, 2017, in Madison, Wis., at the age of 84.

Jan was born on June 5, 1933, in Madison, to Lloyd and Harriet Millette. She graduated from Madison East High School in 1951. Shortly after high school, she began working for Wisconsin Bell. After a few years, Jan left Wisconsin Bell to start a family consisting of seven children. She returned to AT&T where she retired in 1995 after she met and married her kindred spirit, Mervin “Buzz” Dyer.

Jan’s house was always full of kids, her own, and most of the neighborhoods. She allowed her children to have every kind of pet you could imagine. She loved the outdoors, camping in particular. So every weekend she could, she would pack up the kids and their friends and go in an old school bus that was transformed into a magical camper. Jan enjoyed bowling every Wednesday night with her cousins, sister-in-law, as well as many other family members over the years.

Jan had the kind of personality that made you immediately feel like you had finally come home merely by seeing her quick, accepting smile, her gift of laughter, her genuine kindness, and sincere compassion. Those are the most significant gifts she leaves behind in each one of her children.

Jan is survived by her children, David. R. Anderson, Julie (John) Frownfelder, Gary (Heidi) Anderson, Karen (Patrick) O’Donnell, Linda Anderson Crews, Steven L. Anderson, and Terry (Jill) Anderson. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Jan was preceded in death by her husband, Mervin “Buzz” Dyer; her parents, Lloyd and Harriet Millette; brother, Lloyd R. Millette; sister-in-law, Margaret Millette; sister, Marian Peterson; brother-in-law, James H. Peterson; and niece, Janette Peterson. She was also preceded in death by her dear cousin, Carol Kelley, along with many other beloved cousins, aunts, and uncles.

A prayer service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017, at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 2418 N. Sherman Ave., Madison. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.

In place of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions are sent to Agrace Palliative and HospiceCare of Madison, Wis., for the fantastic support not only given to our mom, but also to our sister, Linda, who was our mother’s primary caretaker for many years. Special thanks to Rebecca, Keri, and Heather along with the entire Agrace team.
