MOUNT HOREB / VERONA—Duane R. Eliason, age 86, died on Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018, at Ingleside Nursing Home. He was born March 13, 1931, in Escalon, Calif., to Ralph and Linnea (Johnson) Eliason.
Duane was united in marriage to Margaret L. Berg on June 30, 1956, in Turlock, Calif. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for many years. He was a pilot and a talented wood carver. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Verona, Wis., and formerly of Saron Lutheran Church in Escalon, Calif.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret; daughter, Rebekah (Ludwig) Simmet of Verona; grandchildren, Heidi (Nadeem) Afghan, Leah (fiancé, Rama Meyers) Simmet, and Sophia (Michael) Thomas; great-grandchildren, Amelia and Benjamin Simmet, and Esther, Trenton and Trinity Thomas; daughter-in-law, Hildegard Eliason of Oregon, Wis.; sister, Jean Adams of Oregon State; two brothers, Bruce (Jeanette) Eliason of Oregon State, and Donald (Elsa) Eliason of California; a brother-in-law, Marshall Berg of Middleton; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Ronald Eliason; and great-grandson, Nicholas Thomas.
A celebration service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2018, at ST. JAMES LUTHERAN CHURCH in Verona, Wis., with the Rev. Peter Narum officiating. The Ellestad Camacho Funeral Home is assisting the family.
