MIDDLETON—Dorothy H. Feddema, age 99, passed away on Friday, July 14, 2017. The daughter of Alfred and Olive Gates, she was born on Feb. 24, 1918, in Rice, Minn. She was married to Gilbert Feddema.
Dorothy held secretarial positions most of her life working for the Benton County Welfare Office, St. Cloud Teacher’s College and the VA Hospital, in St. Cloud, Minn. In 1951, she moved to Madison where she worked at the newly opened VA Hospital until her retirement from government service in August 1974. Dorothy served as voluntary secretary for St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Middleton, from 1959 until 1974, at which time she was hired as full-time secretary. She served St. Bernard Parish 29 years with Monsignor F. A. Mack and 11 years with Monsignor J. Patrick Higgins, retiring in 1992 to become housekeeper and caretaker for Monsignor Mack until his death April 10, 1998. In her retirement years Dorothy served as a volunteer at Nazareth House Nursing Home, Stoughton, at her parish church and at the Middleton Senior Center.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Kathleen H. Enerson; seven grandchildren, Scott (Lisa), Andrew (Julie), Michelle, Jill, Flint, Elizabeth (Frank) and Robert; 15 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death are her parents, husband, brothers, and sister.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 7450 University Ave., Middleton, at 11 a.m., on Thursday, July 20, 2017, with Father Brian Wilk presiding. Burial will be in St. Bernard’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 7435 University Ave., Middleton, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Wednesday, July 19, 2017, and at the church from 10 a.m. until time of the service on Thursday.
