MOUNT HOREB / NEW GLARUS—Alice M. Gjesvold, age 95, of New Glarus and formerly of Perry Township, Wis., died peacefully on Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017, at Glarner Lodge in New Glarus, Wis., with family at her side.
She was born May 13, 1922, to Albert and Catherine (Hefty) Rhiner in Verona, Wis. She graduated from Whitewater Teachers College and taught at Forward School. While teaching, she met Kenneth Gjesvold and they were united in marriage on July 6, 1943; they farmed in the Perry Township area for 39 years until their retirement. He preceded her in death on May 25, 1997.
Alice enjoyed listening to old time music, bowling, playing cards, reading, fishing and spending time with family and friends. Alice was a member of Perry Lutheran Church and of its Women of ELCA.
Survivors include her daughters, Jean (Gary) Baumgartner of Mount Horeb, and Janice (Mike) Mostrom of Chanhassen, Minn.; four grandchildren, Kevin (Sarah) Baumgartner, Karla Baumgartner, Paul (Heather) Mostrom, and Rachel (Sean) Douglas; four great-grandchildren, Tanner, and Lizzie Baumgartner; Nathan Lacy, and Lena Douglas; her sister, Doris Harries; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sister, Pauline Rhiner; and her very good friend, Everett Kittleson.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017, at PERRY LUTHERAN CHURCH in Daleyville, Wis., with the Rev. Kelli Fisher officiating. Burial will be at Hauge Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until 3:50 p.m. on Saturday at PERRY LUTHERAN CHURCH.
