MADISON—Thomas Guy LaBounty, age 77, passed away at home in his sleep on Dec. 6, 2017. Tom was born in Beaver Dam, Wis., on Sept. 17, 1940, and moved with his family to Arena, Wis., at age 11. Following high school graduation, he served three years in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany. Tom married Rosemary Macke in Portage on a beautiful day in August, 1974. He worked many jobs, including car sales, but his happiest and proudest years were the 17 he worked as a phlebotomist at the V.A. Hospital in Madison. Tom especially enjoyed fishing, traveling anywhere and everywhere, car races, doing crossword puzzles, and playing the 1-cent slots, cards, and Scrabble. He listened to music for hours (usually 101.5 and 98.1 FM) and was a fan of Queen and Alice Cooper. His latest favorite song was “The Tide Is High” by Blondie.
Tom is survived by his wife, Rosemary; his brother, James (Nancy) of Glendale, Ariz.; his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Tim and Debra Macke, Kevin and Deb Macke, Joanne and David Merten and Jane and Tim Mitchell; as well as many nieces and nephews; and his cat, Tippy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Eva (Stanton) LaBounty; his brothers, Richard (Maria) and William (Wilma); his sister, Peggy (Joseph) Tosti; his nephew, Mark Boerger; and his niece, Traci (David) Wulff.
Special thanks to the nurses and CNAs at the V.A. and UW Hospitals as well as Agrace HospiceCare for their kindness and expert care. Thank you also to our friends, neighbors and family for their help, calls, visits and prayers.
Inurnment at Roselawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Madison will be at a later date. A memorial gathering of family and friends will be held at that time. In Tom’s memory, please consider a donation to your favorite charity.
The tide was high, Tom, but you held on as long as you could. May the saints and angels welcome you to paradise.
