SUN PRAIRIE—Connie Larkins died peacefully surrounded by loving family on Nov. 4, 2017, after a 10 month battle with cancer. She leaves behind family members and friends who were the recipients of her love and caring throughout her life.

Connie was born on Oct. 10, 1953, in Madison, to Roy and Lucina Punke. She graduated from Madison La Follette High School in 1971, and married Robert Larkins in 1974. In 1979, the couple welcomed twin sons, Michael and Matthew, into their home. Connie worked at American Family Insurance for 41 years before retiring in 2012. In 2013, Connie married Brian Krause.

Connie was a generous person. She passionately committed her time and talents to those in need. For years she was a fixture at the Savory Sundays program in downtown Madison. In more recent years she devoted her energies to various outreach ministries at First United Methodist Church, especially the “Come as You Are” worship and breakfasts on Wednesday mornings. She was regularly involved with countless other homeless and food pantry programs. Connie was also an active and dedicated volunteer at the Center for Families in the Respite Center where she provided childcare for parents whose circumstances required immediate assistance. Whenever Connie saw a need, she wanted to do something about it, not just talk about it.

Connie is survived by her husband, Brian Krause; mother, Lucina Punke; children, Michael (Michelle) and Matthew (Jennifer); and treasured granddaughter, Evelyn. She is further survived by all four of her siblings, Bruce Punke, Sharon DeLong, Cindy (Jim) Hoyt, Alan Punke and her best friend and “adopted” sister, Pat (Gary) Pankhurst. Connie will also be greatly missed by her nieces, nephews, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Roy Punke; her first husband, Robert Larkins; and brothers-in-law, Richard Imhoff and Alan DeLong.

A memorial service celebrating Connie’s life will be held at FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 203 Wisconsin Ave., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. until time of service on Saturday at the church. If you would like to honor Connie’s wishes, please “come as you are” and wear clothing that is comfortable for you. Foster Funeral Home is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to First United Methodist Church to help support homeless and outreach ministries or Agrace HospiceCare.

Connie’s family would like to thank Dr. Ryan Porter and Dr. Dan McGarry for their care and compassion during Connie’s illness. In addition, “Team Connie” members were dear to Connie’s heart and made Connie’s last days filled with love.
